The Season of Lent is a very special time for us Christians.  It is a  season of penitence and spiritual self-discipline as we prepare to  celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.  Lent begins with Ash  Wednesday, when a cross of ashes is placed on our foreheads as a sign of our commitment to humble ourselves to the Lord and allow His Spirit to work in our lives in a way that we have never allowed before.  As in years past, we will offer worship services each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm beginning on March 5 and  continuing until Holy Week (when there will be services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.)  This year’s services will be made even more special since Reverend Harold Vandeveer and the members of St.Barnabas will be with us. Reverend Vandeveer and Pastor Lybrand will share the preaching.
The sermon series for this year will focus on one of the most familiar and often quoted psalms in the bible: Psalm 23.  The sermons will open for you the rich symbolism of each verse of this great psalm of David and help you apply the meaning to your life.  You will want to hear every one of them.  The verses of the sermons are below:
  • April 17 (Maundy Thursday) Goodness & Mercy follow me into the House of the Lord
-On Maundy Thursday (April 17) at 7:00pm, we will celebrate First Communion for several students and participate in the ancient ritual of Stripping the Altar as a reminder of the way Jesus was stripped and beaten before his crucifixion.
- On Good Friday (April 18) at 7:00pm, we will worship using one of the oldest liturgies of the Christian Church, the ancient Tenebrae Service.  The service begins with a fully lighted sanctuary but as we listen to the story of Jesus’ trials, crucifixion and burial, the light diminishes to a single candle.  It is one of the simplest yet most moving worship services of the year.

Fresh Encounter

with Drs. Henry & Richard Blackaby

After Easter, we will begin a study of the Blackaby's course,    Fresh Encounter. The 6 week DVD course will guide participants through the biblical pattern of experiencing God's presence., which leads to spiritual growth. In Fresh Encounter, you will come face to face with the truth of the Scripture and the power of the Holy Spirit. By exploring what the bible reveals about the gracious nature of God and the wandering habits of the human heart, you will be called and challenged to return to Christ. Through this transformative bible study, you will learn how God desired to use each of us as catalysts for spiritual awakening in our community.
Like our other Midweek bible studies, this course will be offered twice on Wednesdays from 10:30-noon in the morning and at 6:30-8:00 in the evening. The course will involve homework in the workbook which costs $10 (paid for in the first session). The course is open to your friends and will begin on April 30th.
